Lukas Ligeti at the white house in Orlando

09/27/08 | by droo [mail] | Categories: NEWS [A]

From Pat Greene and Steven ‘Woody’ Igou:

Lukas Ligeti: Concert
[Sept. 28th at 7 pm]

Cirque Del Soleil music director Benoit Glazer has built a 125 person musical auditorium in his new house in downtown Orlando. He has started the Timucua concert series (see Timucua.com) where he has hosted hundreds of concerts at his home including over 100 world premiers.

This Sunday will be an exciting concert featuring the son of famous European composer Gyorgy Ligeti, Lukas Ligeti. Lukas is a composer and percussionist out of New York who has worked with the Kronos Quartet, John Zorn and others. You can check out more about Lukas Ligeti at LukasLigeti.com.

The concert starts at 7:30 p.m. The concert is free, donations to the Timucua Foundation are welcome. If you would like to bring a bottle of wine or a dish of food, that would be terrific. The Timucua concert series brings back the now lost tradition of having musical concerts in one’s home. We invite you all to come. The concert location is 2000 So. Summerlin, just south of the intersection of Summerlin Avenue and Kaley Avenue. Park in the Boone High School parking area. See you there.

If you’re taking a cruise, and you’re an art buyer, BEWARE.

From The Consumerist:
“…The business is conducted on international waters, so there’s no consumer protection laws to throw you a lifesaver. Consumerama says they’re not even run under real auction rules, but are instead, ‘coordinated inebriated sales hysteria’…”

Art of the Vessel

09/18/08 | by droo [mail] | Categories: NEWS [A]

From Josh Garrick:

Millenia Fine Art to present
“The Art of the Vessel”

Please join us for the Opening Reception on
Friday, September 19 from 7 pm to 9 pm

Glass is a material that has enchanted people for thousands of years. In its upcoming exhibition “Art of the Vessel,” Millenia Fine Art sets out to show how dynamic glass can be while celebrating the creativity, ingenuity and impact of the vessel.

“What makes glass such a wonderful medium to experience is its versatility; glass can be blown, cast, carved, cut, and bonded with other materials,” says Robert Lombard, Gallery Director and curator of the upcoming exhibit. Lombard wants the show to “open your eyes to what this medium can do.”

The exhibit will include works by Christopher Lydon, Duncan McClellan, Bryan Rubino, Christopher Cosma, Barbara Sorenson, Afro Celotto, Hiroshi Yamano and John Lewis, among others. The distinctive aesthetic of each artist is – in part – predicated on the unpredictable nature of glass or clay lending itself to the expression of an innovative and unique artistic voice.
